workers and daily wagers. During the second wave, Oxygen has become vital and scarce.
We reached out to multiple Medical Oxygen suppliers and realized it’s a Goliath task to procure from the
existing production lines.
We realized there is an utmost scarcity of Oxygen cylinders in India and the best way to handle the situation is
by procuring oxygen concentrators and cylinders. We reached out to multiple manufacturers across the globe.
Following the advice of qualified doctors, we started working towards building these oxygen support
systems. We led an effort to mobilize these resources to meet the demand for “beds with oxygen supply” to treat
COVID-19 patients that are in mild to moderate infection stages and also patients on the path to recovery. With
this, we are making sure the ICU beds in the hospitals to be available for patients in the critical stage.
Smita, being one of the founding members of Entrepreneurs Organization EO, AP requested the EO members to
join the cause in raising funds and mobilizing resources across 6 locations in AP & Telangana. The members of
EO AP were extremely supportive and they together rolled out the initiative “EOAPforOOPIRI”.
With the support of EO AP members and the Alai Foundation, the plan was to set up 300 oxygen support
systems in the shortest possible time. The team surpassed this goal and are ready to scale this infrastructure to
600 oxygen setups and do much more to support the needs of the patients.
We built a step-down hospital in Vijayawada with 100 beds at the Venue Convention where Sujana Foundation
was running a 100 beds setup & worked towards making it 200 Oxygen beds with the support of GGH, district
collector and doctors team from Care Foundation. This is a free facility for all the patients who need this Interim
Emergency care.
In Hyderabad, we collaborated with the Cyberabad Police under the leadership of Commissioner of Police Sri
Sajjanar gaaru and Medicover to run 50 beds with Oxygen supply.
In West Godavari and Anathapur districts, we set up similar units with a capacity of 50 concentrators each with
the help of team EO as part of our first phase operations.
In Srikakulam and Vizag we are in the process of setting up a total of 150 beds with Concentrators and cylinders.
All these facilities will provide Interim Emergency support for patients with Low Oxygen saturation. We shall be
fully operational in less than a week’s time and intend to extend support until this wave subsides.
Smita has personally taken the initiative of creating helplines for patients who need Covid care under
#SmitaCare & Alai foundation. You can make your genuine Covid care requests for telephone consultations with
